Buffy: Normal Again

I thought this episode of Buffy was quite different from all the other episodes because it involved her fighting an inner demon. There was the monster, but the whole episode primarily focused on Buffy herself. "Normal Again" was about Buffy going back and thinking about her past when she was in a mental institute. She had to fight between what was real and what was an illusion. I can see how Buffy had a difficult time accepting what had happened to her in her early life and how it scarred her. Many people experience things in their life where you do not want to remember, but it somehow comes back to haunt you. By fighting her false thoughts and visions, Buffy was able to defeat the monster and save her friends and family. This shows that Buffy does have the strength to overcome anything.

  1. Very good observation on how this time the enemy was inside her rather than something that she could physically fight. Your also right about how people try to hide their pasts of things they are afraid of. I think the writers did a good job of bringing out new ideas in this episode.

  2. I agree with Sam, your thoughts about Buffy and her inner demons is something I didn't catch! I think that this episode can show that Buffy's inner demons might be a harder battle to fight than her battles with real demons because our minds can trick us into believing things that aren't real, and this episode shows that Buffy is a true slayer because she can fight the physical as well as the mental.

  3. This episode definitely show's Buffy's strenght in a different light. If that was happening to me, I wouldn't know what was real or not. I would probibly go even more crazy and not know what to do. Buffy decided what was important and did what she had to.

  4. I find internal conflict interesting. I think we all face little internal conflict: should we study that extra hour, write that extra comment. Although they are not are heavy as what Buffy was going through, we all face little issues everyday.
